Fifth Avenue is the long commercial strip, Eighth Avenue anchors a dense Chinese business district with heavy pedestrian traffic and constant double-parking, and Fourth Avenue is the wide one with the R train beneath it. Below all of that, Third Avenue lies in the shadow of the elevated Gowanus Expressway, a truck route in its own right, feeding the warehouse and industrial blocks around Industry City and Bush Terminal. The park itself sits on the high ground with a long view across the harbor. Thirty-ninth Street and 65th Street carry crosstown traffic. Almost anywhere in the neighborhood, a commercial vehicle is about to double-park in front of you. Finding a legal space near 8th Avenue at midday is a small ordeal in itself.

Industrial traffic explains most Sunset Park glass work. The warehouse district around Third Avenue moves heavy trucks all day, and their tires throw road stone at exactly windshield height for the car behind. The elevated expressway above them drops its own share of grit and rust onto the traffic underneath. Loading docks add a second category entirely: a pallet corner, a swinging tailgate, a load shifting against a van's rear glass. Then there are the parked cars on 44th or 51st Street that get a side window taken out overnight, which for a work van with tools inside is a bad morning. Between the freight, the construction around the industrial blocks and the tight double-parked avenues, glass takes a beating here that has nothing to do with highways.
Eighth Avenue is the direct line. Follow it from Sunset Park down through the 40s streets, turn onto 47th Street, and continue out to 19th Avenue where we sit at 1936. Fort Hamilton Parkway is the alternative and usually moves better than 8th Avenue in the afternoon crush. From the industrial blocks near Third Avenue, 39th Street across and then down works fine. Ten minutes is realistic outside rush hour. For a van that cannot leave a job site, we will come to the lot, replace the glass there, and let your crew keep working around us.
