Expressway miles do most of the damage. The Staten Island Expressway carries constant truck traffic between two bridges, and trucks on patched pavement produce flying stone; a windshield that commutes on it collects chips at a predictable rate. The bridge approaches concentrate that traffic further. On the eastern shore, salt air off the Lower Bay pits glass and corrodes wiper hardware the same way it does along Brooklyn's waterfront. There is also more tree cover here than in most of the city, and more cars parked under it, so storm limbs account for a real share of broken windshields and rear windows. Long open stretches simply mean higher speeds, and a stone at highway speed does more than a stone in traffic.
Cross the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge into Brooklyn, follow the Gowanus Expressway or come off toward 86th Street, then take 18th Avenue up through the numbered streets and turn onto 47th Street. We are at 1936, between 19th and 20th Avenue. Once you are off the bridge it is a short run. Toll and traffic make the timing unpredictable, so call ahead and we will have the correct glass waiting rather than have you sit. If crossing does not make sense, the van comes to the island and handles the job at your address. Either way you will get a firm price before anyone travels anywhere.
