We are not a shop Borough Park drivers find on a map. Forty-seventh Street between 19th and 20th Avenues is a residential block with a working bay on it, and the people who pull in are usually the third or fourth person from the same family to do so. Somebody's brother-in-law had a windshield done, mentioned the price was what we said it would be, and now his cousin is standing in the doorway with a chipped Sienna. That is most of our week.
It makes the job easy in one way and harder in another. Easy, because we already know what a 13th Avenue delivery van goes through and which minivans sit on every block here. Harder, because a reputation built on 120 Google reviews and a lot of kitchen-table recommendations is not something you get to rebuild. So we quote the number we mean, we tell you when a chip can be filled instead of replaced, and we hand the keys back at the hour we said, not an hour after.
Borough Park runs on numbered streets and numbered avenues, which sounds orderly until you try to park on 13th Avenue on a Thursday afternoon. Thirteenth is the commercial spine, thick with double-parked delivery vans from the high 30s down through the 50s. Fort Hamilton Parkway cuts across the grid on one side, New Utrecht Avenue carries the elevated D on the other, and Ocean Parkway bounds the neighborhood toward Midwood. Between them the side streets are narrow, parked bumper to bumper, and full of school buses twice a day. Driveways are shared, short, and often blocked by somebody who will be right back. From the Fort Hamilton Parkway side, cut across on any of the 40s streets to 19th Avenue and turn. Plenty of customers simply walk it, dropping keys in the morning and collecting the car after work. If the glass is bad enough that driving is a poor idea, say so when you call and the van comes to you instead. We do that on these blocks constantly, and around here it costs the same as bringing the car in.
