Midwood produces more full windshield replacements than most of the neighborhoods we cover, and the reason is overhead. Those big street trees on the lettered avenues drop limbs, and a branch coming down on a parked car does not leave a repairable chip, it leaves a windshield that has to be replaced. Storms are the obvious trigger, but plenty of the damage we see arrives on a still day from deadwood that had been waiting to fall.
The replacement runs the same way it always does. Old glass cut out, pinch weld cleaned and primed so rust cannot start under the new bond, fresh urethane bead laid, new windshield set square to the body with new moldings and clips. Where the vehicle carries a lane-keep or automatic braking camera behind the mirror, we recalibrate it in-house before the car goes anywhere, which adds thirty to sixty minutes. The cure time is honoured in full, and for the first day afterwards we ask you to avoid slamming doors and to skip the pressure wash while the bond comes up to strength. If the car had a rain sensor, a heated wiper park or an acoustic interlayer, the replacement glass carries the same features, because those are not options we quietly leave off to make a number look better.

Two Midwood particulars are worth mentioning. The first is that a tree-strike windshield often is not the only damage: a branch heavy enough to break laminated glass usually leaves a dented cowl, a bent wiper arm or a cracked trim panel, and any of those affects how the new windshield seats. We look at the whole aperture before ordering glass rather than after fitting it. The second is timing around the trip itself. Coming west on Kings Highway at school dismissal turns a twelve-minute drive into something much worse, and since a windshield job means two trips, morning drop-offs work better for everybody. If the crack is spread across your line of sight, do not make either trip. That is what the van is for, and it costs the same.
