Sheepshead Bay windshields run $250 to $450 fitted for most vehicles, around two hours of work plus the safe drive-away time. It is about twenty minutes up Ocean Parkway and west along Kings Highway. On salt-air cars we check the frame carefully before bonding anything to it.

Windshields on cars kept near the water tend to fail in two stages. First the surface goes: years of salt haze, blown sand and wiper grit leave the glass pitted, and headlights at night scatter into a wall of glare. Then something arrives from the Belt Parkway, a stone off a truck, and what would have been a repairable chip on fresh glass turns into a crack because the surface around it is already compromised.
When replacement is the answer, the frame gets as much attention as the glass. Salt finds any break in the paint around a windshield aperture, and corrosion in that channel will undermine a new urethane bond no matter how well the glass is set. So we cut the old windshield out, clean and prime the pinch weld properly, and show you anything we find rather than laying adhesive over it. Then fresh urethane, the new windshield set square, new moldings and clips, camera recalibration in-house where the vehicle has one, and the full cure time honoured before you drive. None of that is exotic work, it is just work that has to be done rather than skipped because the glass would sit there anyway for a while.
“Quick and easy, but some of the workers there have a real attitude problem.”

The salt-air question people from this neighborhood actually ask is whether a new windshield will just haze over again. It will eventually, but far more slowly if the wipers are in good order, because most of the scoring comes from blades dragging grit rather than from the air itself. Corroded wiper arms and perished blades near the water are extremely common and they are cheap to sort out compared with the glass. So we will point it out when we see it. The other local consideration is storm damage: cars on the low blocks near the bay that have stood in salt water develop seal and corrosion problems that show up later as leaks around the glass, and those need the frame looking at rather than just a new pane.

Not quickly, and how fast it happens depends largely on your wipers. Most of the fine scoring on a windshield comes from blades dragging salt and sand across it rather than from the air alone. Replacing tired blades and freeing up corroded wiper arms makes a real difference to how long the new glass stays clear.
It can, and we will check. Salt water in the cowl area and around the windshield aperture accelerates corrosion, and bonding new glass to a rusting pinch weld gives you a leak within a year or two. We clean and prime the channel properly and will show you anything that needs attention before we set the new windshield.
